Hair that red.
Just a postcard I'm sending to my friend Jackson anonymously;

And four postcards I received today;

Today C and his brother spent the day in the sun drinking boutique beer and fixing bicycles in our little yard. In a few days time I may just have a bicycle with which to ride around town. I don't have a helmet or a lock yet. I can't wait.

C is at work so I had ice cream and banana for dinner. I could smell next door's cooking as I sat here typing and I kept waiting for C to bring whatever he was making out. How disappointing. I am definitely going to starve by the time he gets back from Tasmania (18 WHOLE DAYS).

I am going to spend the evening watching Season 1 of Dexter and eating other unhealthy foods (Mi Goreng is first on the menu).

Also, you have to look at this collection of unusual and creative ice cube trays my friend Jade showed me. I've seen some of them before and I think I must have the lego; link.
27°C

^ amazing photographs of the Newcastle ocean baths, by Wide Horizons.

So folks, it's a week off being spring and it's 27° today (and it keeps going up). If it weren't a Sunday I'd definitely be at the beach by now, but I think every single person in Newcastle has had that idea today. If the weather is similar tomorrow I'm going to go for a swim in the ocean baths. This is the way I'd like Summer to be, just comfortably warm. I'd like to go for warm night time swims at the baths and not wake up at 9 o'clock in the morning with it too hot to sleep. But, I guess you take what you can get with weather.

Internet bits!:
  • Boey draws on styrofoam cups, and they sell for hundreds;

  • Future Me; Send an email to yourself in the future. I'm keen to do this, but I haven't decided what to say yet.

  • Questionable intuitive Google Search results;

  • Sneaky Food Cakes Flickr pool is pretty amazing, but why do people want food that looks like other food? I think it confuses the brain!

    ^ Disturbing.

    ^ Wow, why?

  • 100 Things Your Kids May Never Know About.

  • These early Sydney mug shots via A Time To Get are quite beautiful;

  • Sincerely John Huges; this blog post by We'll Know When We Get There about her two-year pen-pal correspondence with John Hughes is quite amazing.

  • A clever cartoon by Ward Sutton;

  • Power to the Poster; Tear off a tab and make it happen - I think these posters by Micah Max are a really clever idea. I like anonymous art;

  • Car shaped planters in Milan;

  • Crisps; Luxirare amazes me - the latest post features a step by step photographic documentation of making home-made potato chips.

  • Some friends of mine showed me this game called Geocaching a few months back;

    Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

    But as I don't have any kind of GPS device, it makes it a little difficult (I have found two caches in Hamilton already though). C showed me a similar website that doesn't require a GPS, but one that doesn't seem to have taken off in Australia yet, called Drop Spots. I am definitely in on this.

  • SASE - Self Addressed Stamped Emails; This little project is very sweet - you email them with the 'exhibition' you'd like to be sent and in a couple of days they email you a kind of traveling exhibition of photographs. I chose the 'Unusual Animal Friends (aka Interspecies Friendship) exhibition and the photos within it were lovely.

  • I might have posted this before, I can't remember, but I thought it was really interesting idea - Last Suppers by James Reynolds, a series of photographs documenting former Death Row prisoners' requests for their last meal before execution.

  • Cassette tape iPod cases, nice;

  • How to make moss graffiti

  • Amazing papercuts by Made by Julene;

  • Polaroid notes from Fred Flare, very cute;

  • Aaaaaamazing;

  • Cute, and a little creepy;

Ooooookay, now C and I are going to buy icy poles! Btw, I thought Inglourious Basterds was a bit inglourious. We didn't know it was by Tarantino when we walked in and when we saw his name come up on the screen 5 seconds into the movie we both looked at each other and were like "Uho". C wanted to leave early on, but we sat it out. I mean, I didn't hate it entirely, and Brad Pitt rarely disappoints, but it wasn't great.
Toof

^ my milk toof.

I have a toof ache :(

I was supposed to catch the train to my sister's birthday party today, but the traveling times were awkward and my toof has been hurting all day and the vet came to check out our sick cat* and is coming back for the bill this afternoon and and I'd be the old one at the 16-year old filled party and rah rah rah basically I'm staying home. I'm disappointed in myself because I regularly make these kind of antisocial choices, but my sister is going to visit when C goes away next month and I can make it up to her.

*Rigby, the cat in question, was quite vocal this morning about her dislike of the cold thermometer... hope she gets better soon.

Cam and I are going to see Inglourious Basterds later this evening. Our five choices were; Inglourious Basterds, The Ugly Truth, Coco Avant Chanel, Is Anybody There?, Public Enemies and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I still haven't seen Harry Potter, and I have a big girly crush on Audrey Tautou and would love to see her being Coco, but I read David and Margaret's reviews of each and decided on Basterds. I can't help it, I really like Brad Pitt. I usually find David and Margaret's reviews lacking in objectivity and David is so snobby and high brow about his tastes, but sometimes they get it right. They did both give No Country For Old Men five stars, which I was entirely unimpressed with.

In other news, I am booking a return flight to Melbourne for October/November to visit my grandma and my half sister which I am pretty pleased about. $25 flights each way? YES PLEASE. How ridiculous is that? I am going to book it asap, before it's too good to be true. Initially the plan was that my sister come with me, but that would mean going down during her school holidays, which unfortunately coincide with my half sister's uni exam weeks, so I'll be traveling lonesome. I am looking forward to it.

When the vet comes back C and I are going to one of our favourite cafes, Rolador, to have beverages. We haven't been in a long time, even though it is very close by, but now we have some coins to spare. I can't wait, mmmm soy chai banana smoothieeeee.

Happy weekend :)
