Unfortunate Superheroes

+++

All I have for you today is a list of "unfortunate superheroes" I've been compiling for a friend. I was trying to think of something I could make into a comic. At the very least I will draw pictures of them. Have any to add?

an agoraphobic superhero.
a superhero with asthma and chronic eczema.
a superhero who has the ability to sense when a crime is about to happen but has no sense of direction.
a superhero who gets hit by lightening every time he goes outside.
a superhero who has the ability to sense when a crime is about to happen but has no means of transport and has to catch public transport.
a pyromaniac superhero.
a superhero with the ability to levitate 5cm off the ground.
a superhero with a penchant for cross-dressing.
a chain smoking superhero.
a superhero with multiple personalities, one of which is evil.
a superhero whose sidekick is his mum (I think my mum would be an awesome sidekick).
a superhero who is a ghost.
a superhero who looks exactly like his nemesis.
an incontinent superhero.
a superhero who randomly turns into a cockerel at any given time.
a superhero who suffers from vertigo.
a superhero who got bitten by a radioactive butterfly (as opposed to a spider)
a superhero who goes around correcting everyone's spelling and grammar (that would be me).

Ps. You know how I mentioned my love for the letter sets and stationery from We've Got Paper a few posts ago? Her boyfriend picked a random number for her giveaway and I got through with number 32. I can't even remember ever having won anything before! I am so excited to be receiving The Woman In Black letter set :) Eee!

Paper Ghosts

(+ grillion-grillion)

I received this lovely letter today from a girl I wrote to from Sendsomething called Megs. She also sent me a copy of a lovely zine that she and her best friend wrote collectively while living 6000 miles apart. I haven't finished reading it yet (I have this trouble with zines, I never want them to end) but I think I will before I go to bed. I love the stationery, but I have no idea what it is;

Today I went to my meeting with my job finder helper (I have no idea what to call this person and I'm not sure of her purpose) and then I went to Go-Lo which smelt of horrible petrochemical jewellery and spilt cheap hair products and I bought an awesome green craft cutting mat and a very overpriced block of perspex for placing stamps with. Then I bussed to Spotlight where I purchased a very sharp craft knife (I keep pretending I'm going to stab C with it. Gosh I'm funny) and some cute alphabet stamps. I wore exceedingly uncomfortable shoes and spent part of the day walking around town with no shoes on. I saw a girl I went to school with at Spotlight and asked her how I should go about applying for a job there. They have an online form to print out which is four pages long, so I filled it all out and I think I'll go hand in a resume next week sometime. With answers like this, I'm definitely going to get a job there...

Last night I stayed up for hours reading through page after page of My Life Is Average. I don't know how or why. There are so many site like this that suck me in.

I found these two artworks separately this week and I thought both were amazing, but also incredibly creepy;

By Marc Quinn ...a frozen sculpture of the artist's head made from 4.5 litres of the artist's own frozen blood taken from his body over a period of five months. This work is repeated every five years and will result in a unique record of the artist aging (via here).

Antonio Gonzales Paucar ...'Zapatos que Rompen el Silencio (Shoes that Break the Silence)' is the name of this installation by Antonio Gonzales Paucar, made out of dead flies, nylon thread, and shoes (via here).

Any thoughts? :D

And I love this, heaps;

Now bedtime for me :)

Ps. I really wish we celebrated Halloween in Australia sometimes :(

Thing I've been looking at today
:
Fontcapture; I've been making a whole heap of weird fonts - this place is entirely free, doesn't involve any software and doesn't have a limit on how many fonts you can make/download.
Letters of note; Amazing letters by notable people, one of my favourites is this letter by Mick Jagger to Andy Warhol. I could read these letters all day long.
Making a gift bow from a magazine page; I'm going to try this one out.
Mystery Google; Type something in and results to something entirely different come out.
Dear Lily Allen from Dan Bull; I wholeheartedly agree.
Cardboard Cupcakes; Yep.
Pictures of kittens; If you don't go "Awww..." you're a horrible person :)
Twenty Ways To Be A Good Pen Pal; cute.

Today I became an aunt. My brother and I have been basically estranged for the last 6 months, but I got a call from my mum today to say that my brother's wife gave birth to a little girl today, Rose. It seemed really weird to have this huge, amazing thing going on today while I sat at home totally detached from it. I have some contradicting feelings regarding it, but I think I will try to make a visit to see them in the next few weeks. Happy birthday Rose.

Ps. I find it hilarious that upon deciding what name she would like to be called by her (first) grandchild my mum chose "Granny Allen" (her surname is Allen). She wrote this on Facebook and I replied "This made me lol", to which she replied "Glad to be the provider of lols". Ah, I love you mum.
