Collage | Postcards

Today I've been making collaged postcards to post to the Chop Shop Clinic to accompany my rainbow silhouette prints. I love sitting down to collage. I usually do it sitting on our uncomfy couch with my materials spread across the coffee table. It is quite an awkard spot and I have to get up and stretch every half hour. I bought myself a nice big work bench last week and once we've moved I'll set up a good studio space for myself with lots of natural light and space and organisation (here's hoping!).

These postcards will get a layer of clear tape put over the top of them to seal them before their journey from Tasmania to New South Wales.

I struggle organising my collage materials. I don't like things to be in folders because I want to be able to rifle through everything quickly. Lately I've been keeping them in this ottoman I bought from Officeworks. It sits in our lounge room as a footrest and when I feel like collaging I steal it from under C's feet and open it up. I'm going to get a bunch of big clear plastic file folders and make it slightly more organised, but for the moment it's like a collaging paper lucky dip!

While I'm collaging away, Dexter the kitty is lounging in a basket. I'm sure if I had've bought this basket with the idea of it being a cat bed, he would never have sat in it. Right now it's his favourite spot and I wouldn't dare move it from the middle of the lounge room floor. Squee!

100 Ideas | Week 21

bike
This week I chose the ideaDraw your bike.

I've been missing my bike a lot since it has been in the shop but I have been enjoying my walks to work over the hill. I took a detour past our new house yesterday and my brother called and we had a lovely chat as I walked to work in the sunshine. One thing I really love about Tasmania is that it has distinct seasons. Yesterday was the first day of Spring and if I didn't know it already, my nose did. I sneezed so many times. After work, we had dinner and played games at our friends Isis and Damien's house and it was great fun.

My drawings using my graphics tablet are still pretty sketchy, but I kind of like them that way.
Did you know that 6pm on September 22 is Bike Hour? I'll be riding, will you? :)

I obviously found C's vows totally hilarious. I'm not sure if this is my most or least favourite photo of myself.

This will probably be my final picnic related post. It's been fun to share photos of this day. I hope you enjoyed them. All photo credit to Justin Aaron. My hairpiece is by Manzanita and I handmade my bouquet by stuffing wool inside a whisk and then attaching bits and pieces to the whisk with wire - hair accessories, crocheted flowers made by my friend, pom poms made by my Nanna.

Just A Minute...

Got that cute rental. Move in  one week! Eep!
We applied for, and got accepted for, a super cute new rental. We move one week from today! A friend on Facebook said "this is what you'd look like in house form".

Taking photos while riding is kinda scary. Need some tips from @juleskills! (ps. I was on an empty bike path not the road)
I tried taking photos while riding - don't try this at home.

Woke up this morning to this gorgeous card (with my name on it!) in the mail. I feel like the luckiest person ever to get encouraging notes like this from total strangers.
I received this lovely card on a day when I was feeling down. Thank you kind stranger!

Thrifting
A hideous cookie jar I saw opshopping today
I saw this hideous cookie jar while thrifting.

I watched: Puberty Blues (new favourite) & The Secret World of Alex Mack.
I listened to: A bunch of good cheap cds ($2!) from the opshop and Myer.
I consumed: Belgian chocolate & hazelnut cookies.
I visited: Opshops, hung out with this lady and met this guy and lots of work and uni.
I wore: My favourite purple coat, lots.

This week the gear cable on my bike snapped and I had to ride it like a single-speed bike for a couple of days until I could take it to the shop to get fixed - I don't know how people ride single-speed and fixed gears! So much work! I've been meaning to take it in for a check up for ages but knew I'd be without a bike for some time - a week without my bike makes me feel so sad! I get bored walking and the buses don't really go where I need them to or at the right times. Watching the men at the bike shop wheeling my bike out of my line of sight made me feel anxious!

Next week we'll be packing like mad during semester break, trying to recruit people to help us move and setting up house. I love the nesting stage. I am looking forward to admiring the view of the city from our new verandah, putting my dirty dishes in the dishwasher and having a clothes line (simple pleasures) and laying back in the bath!
