Viva Mail

Things my hilarious postman has been delivering to me;

^ Fabulous things from Sally of Queenie and the Dew.

^ A wonderfully decorated bit of green from Lauren.

^ And another gorgeous package from Lauren full of goodies. That envelope is superb. It also included a pamphlet about what can and can't be mailed in the US which I can only assume was added after she sent it, fascinating!

^ Another expectedly brilliant letter from Missive Maven. She included an excellent V-mail fold and mail envelope.

^ Tesra sent me a lovely first letter and a bundle of cute things.

^ A great postcard from miss Zoot.

^ A package from the gorgeous Melbournite miss Brodie, which included a wicked mix cd and some lovely Polaroids. I've already collaged up an envelope for my reply.

^ Mariah sent me such a lovely letter.

My meagre outgoing;

^ A little something for Min for her birthday last week. I LOVE those Bonjour name tags.

^ Elissa purchased my Polaroid camera and I thought it would be humorous to send it to her in this Eeyore childrens box. I wonder how that chocolate fared?

^ A long overdue letter for beautiful miss Faiza. I was so sleepy last night when I wrote her letter that I can hardly remember what I wrote! I hope it was at least legible! The envelope is made from an Italian language version of The Rainbow Fish.

^ A bloated Buffy comic envelope for Passion.

^ For Ria in New Mexico, finally.

^ Some time ago Ria sent me a bit of a postal experiment, a box of jelly (jello if you're American), to see how it would arrive. She also sent a bottle with a coin in it, but it still remains to be seen. So, I thought I would repay the favour and send her something unconventional - so I slapped an address label and an airmail sticker on the back of a book I've had for years and wrote her a note in the inside cover. I wonder how bruised and battered it will arrive?

^ And last but not least, a quick postcard to miss L Scott to thank her for the lovely mail she's been sending my way of late.

A mixed and miscellaneous post with some photos taken during the week;

Last weekend I got a lift to Sydney with a friend of C's who was going to meet up with some friends he had met on WoW. He dropped me off in Darling Harbour and with my very limited knowledge of Sydney, I navigated my way 3km by foot up George Street to the MCA Zine Fair. Along the way I spotted this shop front at Sportsgirl and thought it was amazing. I want everything on those shelves. I wonder where they'll go when they redo the shop front?;

Also in my Sydney trek I picked up a nice hardcover drawing book from Smiggle. I haven't done anything much in it yet, just a silly caricature of C and I and one of my house mate and his girlfriend (which he requested). I can't wait to fill its pages;

This week I submitted three assignments and there are two due next week, but I am well and truly on the home stretch. For one assignment I put together this poster - it involved dipping drawings into a jar of paint water with tweezers, cutting out paper snowflakes for several hours and redoing things over and over because I have relentlessly grubby fingers. I forgot to photograph the final design before I submitted it, so I'll show you the finished product some other time;

After spending a bundle on printing and mounting, we all brought our photos in for one class, only to have our tutor take a single photo of them set up on a white board and then we had to take them home. Ah well! At least I can have them now;

I made a collage for Bird In The Hand zine distro last week which Susy quickly got printed into a thousand postcards! I also forgot to take a photo of the collage, it was much brighter than the scan;

Halfway through doing assignments this week I decided I wanted to rip all of the paper laminate off my desk and paint it. It was about 10pm at night, I didn't have enough paint and I had to do it inside and I did a pretty scrappy job, so it was all pretty ridiculous but the outcome was kind of cool. Notice that it's only 3/4 painted. Ignore desk mess! Next week I'll finish it off;

After next week I'll be on break and the following weeks will involve packing up my life into small boxes in preparation for the move and spending a lot of late nights and early mornings watching the World Cup with C.

Just for a change, in the style of Gala Darling, here are some of my Things I Love Thursday;

Umbrella weather; Guidelines for cats; homemade burritos; thick outgoing envelopes; thick black stockings; freshly dyed hair; Trent Reznor's new musical project with his wife; rereading Ghost World; fresh Kath Kidston stationery sheets; Christina Hendricks/Joan Holloway; coconut oat cookies; reliable old clothes; buying a white board to list letters that need writing; the MCA Zine Fair; collage; having only two uni related items due next week then I'm all done for the semester; Najeroux; Vanessa Berry's zines; doing a Powerpoint presentation today about Toy Camera/Lomography photography; the (Australian TV station) ABC's news theme remixed, eating at the sad Chinese restaurant on Beaumont Street (it may look sad but it makes tasty food); Fry's 'chicken' nuggets (made with textured vegetable protein!); exclamation marks (though preferably not in quick succession); it being C's birthday next week and taking him bowling, haha; They Draw And Cook (via Katyha); the beginning of the World Cup (C will be glued to the television); stunning photographs of animals inside the womb; C, my house mate and his girlfriend and I all photocopying our faces and sticking them on our fridge; playing Halo(?!); Shit My Kids Ruined (it's like visual contraception); C's curls (being with someone with beautiful long curly hair is a perfect way to make up for my boring dead-straight mop) and this step by step guide to drawing Justin Bieber.

What has been making your week?

Hola!

Things I will do when this semester is over
(yes I should be doing uni work as I speak);
Sand down and paint my desk with bright red shiny enamel paint.
Write letters for days straight (I'm at just under 40 due).
Collate bits and pieces for a long-planned letter-writing/mail-art themed zine.
Grow my nails (uni makes me bite them), then paint them all a different colour.
Start packing up my life/house in boxes to take to Launceston, Tasmania.
Cook many more 'ooey-gooey chocolatey' recipes from Nigella.com.
Catch the train to Dungog and visit le fam and my little Rosie niece.
Read an entire book (I'm getting by reading letters, zines and comics).
Go for bike rides with C.
Play guitar more often.
Learn to knit/crotchet/embroider/use my sewing machine better.
Go bowling for C's 30th birthday, haha.
