Baked; Vegan Red Velvet Knitting & Science Cupcakes

I made these science/knitting themed cupcakes last night to deliver to the Knit Lab ladies today. The decorations were pretty fiddly but I had so much fun making them (while sitting cross-legged on my lounge room floor watching the Tour De France with many plates laid out in front of me). I tried to think of a way to tie the cupcake holder onto the tray of my bike but decided it was probably a recipe for disaster (mind the pun) and walked into town with them. While I was walking I passed some tradies sitting on the side of the road who said "You can give us the left overs!".

I used (my very favourite cupcake recipe) the Vegan Crimson Velveteen Cupcakes recipe from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World and the Vegan Cream Cheese Frosting from the same book. I dyed marzipan and rolled it to form the atoms and balls of wool, following this lovely lady's tutorial. It was my first time using marzipan and my attempt is far less fancy but I think they looked okay and tasted pretty dee-lish. I want to make another dozen for myself now!

Knit Lab

I don't know how to knit, but I do know how to make collages. I was asked to make a knitting and science themed collage for this excellent exhibition being put together by Team Textiles which consists of one of my uni tutors, Mae, one of my uni classmates, Abigayle and the lovely Isis. The closing party on the 30th has a 'Strike A Patons' theme where attendees are asked to come along wearing vintage cardigans/novelty knits and strike a pose like those found of the front cover of old Patons knitting patterns. I'm hoping that I might learn to knit in the month that the exhibition runs.

I have been taking some pictures of the progress of the bits and pieces that will fill the exhibition, here are some low-fi iPhone pictures;

Some bits of the collage I made (while watching Frank Sinatra's 'Suddenly' late at night on TV).

I will document the exhibition as it progresses.

Worn; I ♥ Shoes

I have been wearing these Vivienne Westwood shoesies for three days straight, though my feet are not as happy about it as I am. I got them for $30 on Australian eBay, but they retail for about $150. They have tiny cute heels and ankle straps and the trademark faint bubblegum scent. They're definitely more comfy with stockings but it wasn't as icy today in Launceston as it has been so I took the opportunity to not have to wear any. Morrissey was sunbaking on the roof as he often does.

Note to self: Must find new place to take outfit photos that isn't blindingly sunny so that I can actually open my eyes in photographs!
