A Little Picnic
P_20130923_131128

Can you tell I'm really enjoying my new camera? On Monday we had a little picnic with C's parents at a place called Punchbowl Reserve. We saw lots of ducks and soaked up the sunshine (in thirty-second spurts as the clouds kept most of the sunshine hidden). We popped Theo in his grandparents' picnic basket while we ate (a friend said that the above photo looked like Theo had just eaten the contents of the basket) - he seemed to like it there (and has become obsessed with sucking on that one finger).

I can't wait for warmer weather and to properly come out of hibernation!

+ Ps. Theo's sweet hat is from a lovely blog reader named Maria. If you're reading - it's Theo's new favourite!

A Little Walk
DSC00177

Today Theo and I walked C to work. He works one suburb over in Newstead and it's a lovely walk, albeit very hilly. He walks to work just about every day (he doesn't have his full license and enjoys walking), even when it's raining and I really like accompanying him, especially now that the sun stays out later. Just about all of the houses in the suburb are mid-century built and very sweet and well kept - so many cute art deco features! It's suburbia, but it's probably the best kind of suburbia. It's the kind of place that you walk through and feel like the people who live there enjoy their lives. The view from the top of the hill is pretty damn lovely and makes it worth the hike back to our house. I wanted to try out my new camera (it's a Sony NEX-5RL - and I really like it), so here are some pictures from the walk.

I love Daschunds. This house usually has two sitting on the verandah watching passersby. This guy was very serious and inquisitive. Earlier this week I saw somebody carrying around a tiny, itty-bitty baby Daschund.

I'm not sure what it is about this apartment block, but oddly, I just love it. I think it's mostly that font - Highview Sixty-Two and the manicured lawn.

Have I ever mentioned how long my husband's hair is? It's all messy and unbrushed here but when I brush it out it's almost a metre long! Despite my occasional encouragement he'll NEVER cut it.

This is what the front of our house looks like at the moment. Our landlord decided to fix the front of the house which was falling down. It's been three weeks of work so far but it's starting to look like there's been some progress. We haven't been able to go in or out of the front door while the work has been going on which has been a bit of a pain - we've been going out through the back of the house and into alleyway with the pram (believe me, it's more difficult than negotiating the staircase at the front of the house!). The landlord felt badly that the work would be going on while we have a small baby and so halved our rent for the last few months and for the duration of the work, which was really lovely (especially considering we've never met them). This is what it looked like before we moved in. Cannot wait until it's finished (though I'll miss half rent!).

Theodore | 3 Months

This baby of mine is three months old (well, 3.5 now). When he was a few weeks old I wished so much for him to be older and more interactive and playful, but now I'd just really like to slow time down and really lap up this stage. His smiles are so big and cheeky and his coohs and ahhs and shrieks make me laugh. Sometimes I go to sleep and wake up in the morning (he still wakes up in the middle of the night for one feed) and it's as if he's developed over night. It's lovely to see the first signs of personality. I see so many of my relatives (and C's) faces in his face and I think he almost looks like a mirror image of me when I was a baby. The way he looks at me makes me feel like the most important person in the world. I'm really enjoying this age.

I think I'm going to stick to monthly entries in his baby book now - I just can't find the time for weekly ones (I'm usually holding him in one arm while I try to paint/draw with the other!).

On his 3-month-old birthday we had a picnic in Prince's Square and let him wriggle around in the sun. I ran off to the chemist to get him some sunscreen for his bare little legs and arms (and face and head and okay I basically lathered his whole body in it) which had never seen the sun before. I can't wait for warmer weather and more picnics.

Zine | Tiny & Quick
kk

Today I hung out with Holly and Sarah and attended their little zine making workshop at the Powerhouse Gallery. I made this very quick, simple folded zine and thought I'd share because I probably won't get it printed. It was a lot of fun to watch the others making their little handmade papery books with their own individual styles. It has definitely got me thinking about future ziney projects. Maybe I should go in the 24 Hour Zine Thing next year?
